Fantastic music provision proven to successfully engage children with learning, fostering an enjoyment of playing traditional instruments (strings, brass and woodwind). In addition to all children learning in a weekly small group instrumental lesson, everyone plays in a 'band' session each week, encouraging a love of performing.'
'When Andy came to the governing body a couple of years ago with the Beyond the Beat proposal, we all thought it sounded amazing and wanted to be involved. It has been great to be able to see the project first hand as a parent.
'I wish you could have seen the joy on the children's faces when they all brought their instruments out of the school that first day in September. To see a group of boys rushing out of school to sit on the field and show off their instruments was amazing. That evening I had a trombonist, clarinettist and a trumpeter in my house!'
'What I love about Beyond the Beat is that it gives children who would normally never get the chance, to play an instrument. The icing on the cake was last week's concert and I'm sure the event will stay with those children for a long time. For children like Ellie who already play an instrument or two she was able to see how her skills could develop as she gets older.
I thought the performance last week was fantastic, it is clear how hard you have all worked; children and teachers!'
Mrs Rose, Chair of Governors, Sarisbury Junior School
'Beyond the beat has been a fantastic addition to the music curriculum at Sarisbury over the past four years and the children just love taking part! The progress made by our youngsters from week to week as they learn and develop so many new skills and confidences has been wonderful to see. The culmination of the programme, an end of term concert with a group of over 90 musicians, is just a brilliant celebration of their work and I cannot recommend this opportunity to enrich music learning highly enough!'
Andrew Stockton Headteacher, Sarisbury CE Junior School

Rock 2 the Beat

Rock 2 the Beat is our exciting provision to successfully engage Year 4 to Year 6 children with learning and enjoying the playing of a rock and pop instrument (voice, keyboard, guitar, bass guitar and drums). This can be as an complete beginner or an experienced player. Small group lessons are led by inspiring instrumental specialists along with a 'band session' to encourage a love of performing
'Rock2theBeat has inspired many children to learn a new instrument and the enthusiasm and enjoyment has been amazing. Seeing the children performing as part of a band in such a short space of time has far exceeded our initial expectations. The band performances have resulted in even more children signing up and wanting to learn an instrument.'
L McCarthy, Headteacher, Park Gate Primary School
'Rock 2 the Beat has been a resounding success in our school, with over 65 pupils now learning to play and perform with Rock 2 the Beat on a weekly basis. It is great to see children really engaging with their teachers whilst learning to read music and playing popular songs that they know and relate to. Most of all, it is wonderful to see the enjoyment all of the children show whilst doing Rock 2 the Beat, and the progression they make from term to term. I'd highly recommend the quality of Rock 2 the Beat provision to all schools across Hampshire.'
D. Bessant, Headteacher, Fair Oak Junior School

Managing Instrumental Tuition
The 'Managing Instrumental Tuition' document was written to help you manage the cost of provision through charging parents, and with sufficient pupils learning, there should be no need for schools to subsidise the cost (unless of course you wish to do so).
Additionally, the 'Managing Group Lessons' guide will help you to optimise group sizes and lesson lengths, maximising children's progress and providing your school and parents with the best possible value for money.
